Senior Nursing Officer and mother of three, Salomey Awiti Baffoe, has reunited with her family after being granted GH¢100,000 bail in connection with the ongoing ‘Ghana Jollof’ case.
The 40-year-old nurse from Techiman was arrested at her home in Hansua, near Techiman, in September and subsequently charged with abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her uncle, Kojo Asiedu, said although Salomey appears well after her release, the family is yet to have her examined by a medical specialist to properly assess her health.
Speaking on her release, Mr. Asiedu expressed gratitude for the help the family received in establishing Salomey’s whereabouts during the period of her detention.
“I brought her from Accra, but in the right time, she will speak and thank everyone for the help and support they gave to her. She is very appreciative of what everyone did. She is well and she has been taken out of police custody,” he said.
He said Salomey’s return home had brought immense relief and joy to the family, particularly her two children who had not seen their mother for some time.
“It was more than a Christmas celebration; we are very happy. When her children saw her, and how they reacted, it was very sad. It’s been a while since they saw their mother and they welcomed her with happiness,” he said.
Mr. Asiedu said Salomey’s mother had also been deeply affected by her absence and had stopped eating.
“Salomey’s mother also was not eating, but when she saw the daughter, she said she would eat, and so all the family members are very happy,” he added.
Salomey was granted bail by the Accra High Court on October 5, with a bond of GH₵100,000.00 and two sureties both civil servants and earning not less than GH₵3,000.00.
The Court also set February 17, as the next hearing date to establish the substantive case.
