A Sergeant stationed at the Madina Police station has been arrested and placed in custody over a shooting incident at the Adentatra Ritz junction that resulted in injuries to two people last Sunday.

It followed a confrontation between General Sergeant Mathew Aboase, and some drivers of the Ritz Junction

Taxi Drivers Union.

The Adenta-Abokobi Divisional Police Command is investigating the shooting incident.

A police statement dated Monday, October 12, 2026, said the incident occurred on Sunday, October 11, and that preliminary investigations indicate that the confrontation escalated after the officer allegedly threatened the drivers with his pistol, prompting them to attempt to disarm him.

During the ensuing struggle, the weapon reportedly discharged accidentally, hitting two people who were nearby, according to the police statement.

The two victims, identified as Doe Asinyo and 34-year-old Gifty Nyimahen, sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the Madina Pentecost Hospital for medical attention.

Asinyo sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh. He was treated at the hospital and subsequently discharged.

Nyimahen, who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, was admitted for treatment before being referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further medical care.

The Police subsequently arrested General Sergeant Aboase in connection with the incident. He is currently in police custody pending further investigations.

The officer’s service pistol has also been retained by the Police as evidence to support the investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting.
